Far too often in Maine politics, no news is the best news everyday Mainers like you and I can hope for.
So, on these occasions when I get to report back to you on the legitimate GOOD news you’ve created, I can’t help but smile while I type.
Thanks to Maine First Project supporters like you and the hard work of so many Maine patriots, the good news is starting to come with more regularity.
I am elated about the rapid growth of our movement to restore Maine to The Way Life Should Be.
Today, it is my pleasure to relate three major victories we’ve recently achieved together.
Maine First Project has been the leading voice fighting back against the woke indoctrination of Maine students and the campaign by swamp critters on both sides of the aisle at the Coliseum on the Kennebec to inject radical San Francisco values into the heart and soul of our Pine Tree State.
We acted as a megaphone for your voice and have scored critical successes for parental rights, the elimination of pornography in our schools, and efforts to prevent rural and suburban Maine from turning into the slums of South Portland.
Check out the difference Maine First Project supporters have made for the future of our state in just a few days:
- Scored a huge victory with a lopsided “Ought Not to Pass” committee vote on LD 1939, the Muzzle the Parents Act.
- Got the age-inappropriate and frankly pornographic children’s book “It’s Perfectly Normal” removed from an elementary school library.
- Swamped the Labor and Housing committee with an avalanche of testimony opposing LD 2003, Speaker Fecteau’s brazen attempt to bring the slums to the suburbs, all in the name of “affordable housing” and “racial equity,”
First up:
Two weeks ago, it looked like we were in danger of having Republicans support a bill backed by the teachers’ unions and Maine’s snotty snowflake Indoctrinator of the Year, Kelsey Stoyanova.
LD 1939 is a blunt instrument of intimidation meant to muzzle parents who are showing up at school board meetings to oppose the rotten curricula that are the rule rather than the exception in Maine’s failing K-12 public schools.
As you know, parents are the best defense against the radical brainwashing of their children and grandchildren.
That’s why the Left acted so quickly to muzzle moms and dads!
Maine First Project sounded the alarm, mobilizing our peaceful and patriotic grassroots army.
Maine patriots flooded the Criminal Justice Committee with testimony, emails, and phone calls.
You made sure the swamp creatures had no choice but to listen to your message.
And because of that, not only did you strengthen the resolve of Republicans to hold the line, but we even scored some begrudging support from Democrats!
LD1939, “An Act To Protect School Administration Officials From Harassment And Abuse” – or more accurately put, the Muzzle the Parents Act — was voted down in committee by a 9-3 vote!
If you ever thought you don’t matter in politics, this should prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that your voice — combined with the voices of like-minded Mainers — can prevail against the odds!
Unfortunately, our committee victory doesn’t mean the Muzzle the Parents Act is dead. It will move now to the Senate and House for consideration — where Maine First Project supporters will demand a roll call vote, so you can see where your Representative and Senator stand.
When that time comes, we will have to fight even harder to kill this radical bill in the Democrat-majority legislature. And we’ll have to keep fighting to hold every swamp critter who votes for it accountable at the ballot box this November.
That wasn’t the only victory for parents this past week.
A parent mentored by Shawn McBreairty of Maine First Project’s Forgotten Parents Initiative was successful in removing a pornographic book from the shelves of an elementary school library.
Concerned parent Katherine Collins, mother of six children, met last week with the principals of Reeds Brook Middle School and Weatherbee Grade School in Hampden.
Collins set forth her objections to the book, “It’s Perfectly Normal,” which was available to eight-year-olds at Weatherbee and 11-year-olds at Reeds Brook, without parental consent.
I’ll spare you the graphic pictures that school administrators and teachers are making available to minor children. The book depicts masturbation, different sexual positions, and cartoon nudity of characters of various ages, races, and body types.
On January 19th of this year, Katherine gave impassioned public testimony to the RSU 22 school board in Hampden, regarding the district’s hypersexualization of minors. Board members didn’t so much as acknowledge her concerns.
Starting to see why the woke Left wants to muzzle parents?
Katherine agreed to fill out ridiculous “challenge forms” that aren’t even listed on the RSU 22 website — it’s a “secret form.”
Only then was she able to bend the ear of the two principals and make her case.
And now – district officials are at least saying the book has been pulled!
We need more parents like Katherine Collins!
And most recently, Maine First Project supporters swamped another legislative committee with powerful testimony against an attempt to legislate single-family residential neighborhoods out of existence.
For years, Maine First Project has been bringing attention to the radical Left’s efforts to transform Maine into a rural New England version of decadent San Francisco.
The woke Left’s Foreigners First agenda — and coddling of the homeless — have turned large swaths of Maine’s largest cities into slums.
Feces on the sidewalks, drug paraphernalia and dirty needles in the parks.
But instead of addressing their failed policies, Leftist legislators want to bring the worst parts of city life to a neighborhood near you, with their Bring the Slums to the Suburbs bill – that would put an end to single-family residential zoning all across Maine.
And this effort wasn’t coming from just Democrats. Speaker Fecteau convinced a Republican legislator to sign on as a co-sponsor.
Once again, Maine First Project sounded the alarm and called our peaceful and patriotic grassroots army to action.
Our supporters flooded the phone lines and submitted written testimony in advance of the public hearing. More than 150 pieces of testimony were submitted, and the hearing lasted more than 8 hours!
The next step in the legislative process is a work session, when committee members will debate and vote on the bill.
Maine First Project will track this beast of a bill at every step of the process, and keep you informed.
The victories are racking up, the momentum is on our side, and the Leftists who dominate state government are in disarray.
When the iron is hot, you must strike – and then double down!
Maine First Project is the leading voice for Forgotten Mainers in the political and cultural wars raging all around us. And I’m so glad to have patriots like you fighting alongside us.
Thank you as always for your loyal support. With your help, we will restore Maine to The Way Life Should Be.
Sincerely,
Hon. Lawrence Lockman
