When Melvin Williams of Waldoboro was first elected to the RSU 40 school board in 2017, he was the lone advocate on the 16-member board for making education great again in Maine.
He was outnumbered 15 to 1 by woke board members who were content with the status quo of cultural Marxist indoctrination in the classroom, coupled with gender-bender madness in the restrooms and locker rooms.
Eight years later — after dozens of election contests across the five midcoast towns that make up RSU 40 — Melvin’s team is now in the majority by a margin of 10 to 6. Four seats were up for grabs on June 10th, and the back-to-basics candidates prevailed in three of those contests.
Richard Butler of Warren defeated woke incumbent Julie Swindler by one vote!
Remember that the next time someone tells you they don’t vote because a single vote doesn’t make any difference.
It was a long, bumpy road to a conservative majority in RSU 40, with Melvin’s allies sometimes taking two steps forward and one step back over the past decade.
Melvin and I first met at an Activist Training event Maine First Project hosted five years ago in Orrington. I was immediately impressed with his commitment to cleaning up the mess left-wing “progressives” have made of public education in Maine, and his perseverance on behalf of the next generation of Mainers.
Soldier on, my friend.
As a retired dairy farmer, your experience cleaning stables will come in handy as you and your colleagues get down to the business of making education great again in Maine.
