It was 58 years ago last week — June 11, 1963 — that Gov. George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse door at the University of Alabama to stop the desegregation of schools in his state. He was determined to keep his campaign promise: “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!”
As Vanderbilt University professor Carol Swain describes it:
What goes around comes around! To paraphrase David Horowitz: Inside every Democrat is a segregationist screaming to get out!
For Portland superintendent Xavier Botana, this isn’t his first embrace of racism. Four years ago, he determined that the Portland school district had way too many white teachers. Botana worked with fellow racist Glenn Cummings, president of the University of Southern Maine, to develop a hiring program designed to discriminate against white and Asian applicants for faculty and staff positions.
What little notice Maine’s very Fake News outlets took of the explicitly racist hiring policy was overwhelmingly positive. You can count on these alleged “journalists” for a repeat performance with regard to segregating students by race.
The good news is that Maine First Project has contacted a very capable Maine-licensed attorney who believes Botana’s racial segregation policy is a violation of both state and federal law.
